How should Surface Segments be displayed?
Surface Segments are best displayed using the Classification Texture found under the Display properties menu. The most geological information generally are obtained by viewing Z-slices. In order to rapidly change from one Z-slice to the next, it is best to create a stored cube and then pre-load that cube, or at least pre-load the time zone of interest.
Two color bars are provided for optimum display of the Time Surface Segments (Sample # Output type). The User’s Guide contains a table of Surface Segments input parameters and display parameters that result in each unique color of the color bar corresponding to a single picked sample number.
How do I determine Vertical Spread Method and the number of Spread Samples to use?
This will depend upon your objectives and the temporal frequency of your data. The lower the frequency the more samples you can spread the results over. In general you want the segments to be separated by a No-Event Background value. If there are many samples with Overlap values, the Spread Samples value is too high. You can use one of the “Fill” Vertical Spread Methods to insure that you do not have any Overlap, but in doing so, only the “Sample #” Output Type can be used to easily visualize the spatial variations in dip magnitude. The “Fill” Vertical Spread Methods in combination with the Attribute Output Type and displayed as Z-Slices provides the best view to visualize amplitude variations along horizons prior to interpreting them.
